we moved to the 'burbs a couple of months ago. i'm still getting used to it but feeling a bit better about it than i did. it's an old old house. the place needs a lot of work. i dont mind admitting - we kind of blew the budget on getting ourselves into it. we dont really have any renovation budget to speak of. the house has some really great things such as this original pantry shelving:

but we dont have any central heating. and its getting colder. we have this:
which i had hoped naively would heat the whole house. we fired it up yesterday and after we had managed to extract all the smoke from the building it was only slightly warmer. uh oh.
on the plus side this weekend i have a lovely wedding to do out in the wilds of scotland which involves a ferry trip and a couple of nights away in a log cabin on a beach. i am really quite excited about that.
